Frequently Asked Questions

Do children grow out of flat feet?

Many children have flexible flat feet when they are young, and this can be completely normal. If flat feet are painful, stiff, or affecting walking or activity, an assessment is recommended.

Is toe walking normal?

Occasional toe walking can occur in young children learning to walk. Persistent toe walking or toe walking beyond early childhood should be assessed.

Does my child need orthotics?

Not every child needs orthotics. They are recommended when there is pain, functional difficulty, or abnormal mechanics affecting movement. If needed, we assess and prescribe based on your child’s individual needs.

What happens during a children’s podiatry appointment?

We assess how your child stands, walks and moves, examine foot structure and development, and discuss symptoms or concerns. Treatment may include advice, exercises, footwear guidance, or supportive devices if required.

Do I need a referral?

No referral is needed to see a podiatrist.

Is treatment painful?

Assessments and treatments are gentle and tailored to children. Our goal is to keep kids comfortable, confident and active.

At what age should children see a podiatrist?

Any age. If your child is walking and you have concerns — they can be assessed.
